World Veterinary Day 2026:
Veterinarians – Guardians of Food and Health

April 25, 2026

Animal Health Canada’s team and Board of Directors, alongside Canada’s farmed animal sector, are proud to recognize World Veterinary Day 2026 and the theme: “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health.”

Veterinarians play a vital role in protecting the health of animals, people, and our food systems. From farm to our dining room tables, they help ensure that food is safe, nutritious, and responsibly produced, while also working to prevent disease, support sustainability, and strengthen public health.

As global challenges like emerging diseases, climate pressures, and antimicrobial resistance continue to grow, veterinarians are more important than ever by supporting animal health, food security, economic resilience, and global health systems.

World Veterinary Day is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate these contributions, and to raise awareness of the essential role veterinary professionals play every day.

Let’s take a moment on April 25 to thank veterinarians for their dedication as true guardians of food and health.
