Strengthening Canada’s preparedness for ASF in wild pigs

Federal, provincial, and industry partners recently came together for a national tabletop exercise exploring Canada’s readiness to respond to a detection of African swine fever (ASF) in wild pigs.

Exercises like this allow participants to work through complex response scenarios and strengthen coordination among the organizations that would be involved in managing an animal health emergency.

The discussions underscored the importance of collaboration, information sharing, and strong working relationships, which are key elements in Canada’s ability to plan and prepare for animal health events.

Animal Health Canada appreciates the leadership of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation in hosting this important exercise.
