The coordination of Canada's Foot and Mouth disease planning, preparedness and readiness for response sits with Animal Health Canada. To support the work to begin with its industry and government stakeholders, a first draft of the Integrated Emergency Response Plan for foot-and-mouth disease was completed. The document combines all currently available resources and knowledge for foot-and-mouth disease planning and preparedness in Canada. An accompanying prioritized gaps document informs where to focus efforts in closing priority gaps and improving readiness.
The swine sector, including both industry and government have been collaborating on African Swine Fever planning and preparedness for more than six years. We've been supporting the coordination of initiatives since 2020. To clearly show work accomplished and activities left to address, a second version of an Integrated Emergency Response Plan for African swine fever has been completed with accompanying gaps.
Integrated Emergency Response Plans are valuable documents to have resources and knowledge compiled neatly and accessible in one area to support next steps in planning and preparedness efforts.
