From June 10-14, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) hosted a virtual functional exercise testing African Swine Fever (ASF) notifications and communication within the CFIA, between CFIA and stakeholders, and within stakeholders’ own organizations during the early phases of an ASF investigation (identification of a high-risk suspect premises, receiving a presumptive positive, and finally a confirmed positive result).
AHC participated with other federal agencies and departments, provincial ministries, as well as representatives from the swine industry.
The exercise supports Canada’s objectives to be prepared for a potential incursion of ASF and objectives identified in the ASF Pan-Canadian Action Plan led by federal, provincial, territorial and industry stakeholders and coordinated by AHC. The work falls under Pillar 4, coordinated risk communication, of the plan.
