Animal Health Canada Board names new Government co-chair and members to Board and Advisory Council

The business affairs of Animal Health Canada (AHC) is managed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives from the livestock industry. AHC also has an advisory council made of representatives from federal, provincial and territorial governments. The council provides advice and guidance to the Board on matters relating to legislation, finances, regulations, program activities, new initiatives and other related activities affecting animal health and welfare.

AHC welcomes the following new co-chair and Board and Advisory members:

Mr. Donald Boucher

Mr. Donald Boucher, who has been on the Advisory Council since January 2024, has been named the new Government co-chair for AHC, alongside Dr. Leigh Rosengren, the Industry co-chair. Donald is the Director General, Sector Development and Analysis, at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), where he assists the agriculture and agri-Food sector in economic opportunities, both domestically and internationally. Donald actively engages with a wide range of stakeholders to advance strategic objectives in various areas related to animal health and welfare, including emergency preparedness and antimicrobial resistance. Donald replaces Dr. Keith Lehman as the Government co-chair. We thank Keith for his contributions to the organization over the past 6 years.

Ms. Andrea Genereaux

Ms. Andrea Genereaux has joined the AHC Board. Andrea is the Director of Sustainability and Consumer Expectations at Dairy Processors Association of Canada (DPAC), overseeing key initiatives related to sustainability and animal welfare. She replaces Jean-Michel Laurin from DPAC. We thank Jean-Michel for his contributions to the Board over the past year.

Dr. Stephanie Smith

Dr. Stephanie Smith has joined the FPT Government Advisory Council. Dr. Smith is the Chief Veterinary Officer and Director of the Veterinary Unit with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. Stephanie and her team are engaged on a wide variety of files, including disease surveillance, emergency preparedness and response, animal welfare, and biosecurity. She replaces Dr. Keith Lehman on the FPT Government Advisory Council.

We look forward to our new representatives to continue the collaborative approach to ensure Canada maintains an effective system of animal health and welfare.
