Emergency Preparedness Week 2026: Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.

May 3–9, 2026

Emergency Preparedness Week (EP Week) is a national awareness initiative that encourages everyone to take simple steps to become better prepared for emergencies.

This year’s theme: “Be Prepared. Know Your Risks.” highlights the importance of understanding the hazards that can affect you where you live, work, and travel, and knowing what actions you can take to stay safe.

Emergencies can happen at any time, from severe weather events and wildfires to power outages and other unexpected disruptions. Being prepared can make a significant difference in how you and your loved ones respond and recover.

During EP Week, all Canadians are encouraged to:
• Learn about the risks specific to their area
• Make a household emergency plan
• Build or update an emergency kit
• Stay informed about alerts and local guidance

To learn more, we invite you to explore resources developed by the Government of Canada, including articles on Using Technology During a Disaster, Emergency Management in Canada: How Does it Work, and a sample email to share with your employees.

Taking small steps now can help you act quickly and confidently during an emergency.
