Animal Health Canada has collaborated with CFIA and the National Poultry Group to form an Expert Review Panel for Poultry Depopulation Methods. This initiative will provide expert guidance and independent evaluations of current and emerging poultry depopulation techniques in Canada.
The panel brings together a diverse group of highly-qualified experts. Participants include representatives from the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, the Canadian Association of Poultry Veterinarians, and academics specializing in animal welfare and poultry medicine. Industry stakeholders and provincial government officials with expertise in animal welfare, poultry health, and depopulation practices are also key contributors.
Over the next month, the panel will finalize its composition and convene its first meeting to begin a thorough review of existing practices and to explore innovative techniques. This collaborative effort is a crucial step toward maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare and strengthening emergency preparedness in the Canadian poultry sector.
Stay tuned for updates as the panel progresses in its evaluations in the months ahead.
